Upright and self-heading foliage plants

This range combines self-heading Philodendron hybrids with upright Alocasia, clumping or rhizomatous Homalomena and other non-vining foliage plants. All create a vertical or broad-crowned display, with growth arising from upright stems, underground storage organs, rhizomes or basal clumps.

Mature width, petiole or stem length, leaf size and growth-point count help compare the space each plant needs. Stable containers support broad crowns and tall petioles, while pot depth should follow the species and its root system. Multi-crowned plants make a broader display, whereas a single crown or upright stem produces a more defined outline. The aroid substrate guide is relevant to many members, while the exact mix still follows the genus.
