Aglaonema 'Red Dragon' has broad leaves with red to pink-red tones, dark green margins and a strong central vein. The colour spreads across the blade and midrib area on leaves held by short basal stems.
The plant forms an upright foliage cluster with overlapping leaves rising from the centre. Broad coloured leaves show stress quickly: exposed areas can scorch in direct sun, while cold wet substrate can lead to yellowing or soft petioles.
Aglaonema 'Red Dragon' builds its shape through layered leaves rather than long stem extension. Mature foliage angles outward, while new leaves push up from the middle of the clump.
A bright filtered position reduces scorch on the red leaf areas. A draining mix reduces wet-root stress after watering and lowers the risk of yellow lower leaves.
Keep Aglaonema 'Red Dragon' out of reach of chewing pets and children. Like other Aglaonema, it contains calcium oxalate crystals that can irritate the mouth, throat and skin.
Aglaonema is a tropical aroid genus naturally distributed from north-east India to Papua New Guinea. 'Red Dragon' is a cultivated Aglaonema selection with red to pink-red leaves and dark green margins. The genus name is built from Greek aglaos, meaning bright or clear, and nema, meaning thread, referring to the stamens.
