Plant Care, Natural Habitats & Botanical References
Trusted botanical, habitat, climate, horticultural, plant-safety, cultivar, plant-health and conservation references used to support Foliage Factory product pages and care content.
Good plant care starts with understanding how a plant grows in nature. We use these references to check botanical identity, accepted names, synonyms, native range, growth habit, plant form, natural habitat, substrate, biome, climate context, cultivated names, toxicity wording, pest context, conservation status and legal-trade information before publication.
Habitat, distribution and specimen sources help us understand whether a plant is usually terrestrial, epiphytic, hemiepiphytic, lithophytic, climbing, creeping, trailing, tuberous, rhizomatous, geophytic, succulent, seasonal, shade-adapted, moisture-loving or drought-tolerant. That natural context is interpreted alongside horticultural references and specialist society guidance to create practical indoor care advice.
Not every product page uses every source listed here. We choose the most relevant references for each plant. Supplier names, trade labels, old product text, marketplace listings and repeated internet claims are treated as clues, not final evidence.

Source Limits & Interpretation
- Plant names can change. Accepted names, synonyms and classifications are updated as new botanical research is published.
- Occurrence records need interpretation. Herbarium records, field observations and biodiversity datasets may include cultivated plants, introduced populations, old records, uncertain coordinates or misidentifications.
- Natural habitat is not copied directly indoors. We use habitat, growth habit, substrate, seasonality and climate context to translate natural conditions into practical care guidance for homes, shops and greenhouses.
- Trade names are not always registered cultivar names. Nursery names, market names, clone names and protected variety names are checked against cultivar registries, plant-rights databases and patent records where relevant.
- Non-toxic does not mean edible. Even plants listed as non-toxic may cause stomach upset if chewed or swallowed by pets or children.
We also consult original journal articles, DOI records, taxonomic revisions, monographs, regional floras, institutional repositories and specialist books when species-level or cultivar-level research requires deeper verification. Broad publishing platforms and research-networking sites may help locate original material, but they are not treated as final evidence by themselves.
This page is a reference list for plant content. It is not medical, veterinary, legal, import-compliance or plant-health inspection advice.
