Origin of Spathiphyllum 'Pearl Cupido'

‘Pearl Cupido’ is a compact member of KP Holland’s Dutch Cupido line. KP Holland has been breeding Spathiphyllum in this line for more than three decades.

It was selected as a compact peace lily that flowers freely and stays well suited to smaller spaces.

How to keep Spathiphyllum 'Pearl Cupido' healthy

• Water: Small Cupido pots can dry surprisingly quickly. Check them regularly and water when the surface has begun to dry, before the whole plant repeatedly collapses from thirst.
• Light: Keep it in medium to bright indirect light. It can live in lower light, but flowering and new growth are usually better in a brighter filtered position.
• Humidity: Moderate humidity is usually enough; higher humidity is useful if the leaf tips keep browning in dry indoor air.
• Temperature: Keep it warm and stable indoors, away from cold draughts, cold window glass and direct heat.
• Potting mix: Use a fine, airy houseplant mix that holds moisture and drains freely. Make sure water can leave the nursery pot freely.
• Feeding: Feed lightly about monthly while new leaves and flowers are developing. Because the root ball is small, use a light dose and follow the fertiliser label.
• Repotting: Keep the pot only slightly larger than the root ball. Move up one size when roots densely fill the container.
• Flowering: Remove finished spathes and maintain good indirect light. The plant may produce several flowers at once, followed by periods with fewer flowers.
• Grooming: Cut yellow leaves at the base, remove dead material and wipe dust from the foliage so pests are easier to spot.

Problems that may affect Spathiphyllum 'Pearl Cupido'

• The plant suddenly droops: Check for a genuinely dry root ball. If it is dry, water thoroughly and let the pot drain; if it is still wet, do not keep adding water, because root stress can cause the same limp look.
• Leaf tips turn brown: Small pots dry more quickly, so moisture levels can change faster. More even watering, moderate humidity and occasional use of low-mineral water usually help.

• Keep this plant away from children, cats and dogs.
• Its leaves and stems contain insoluble calcium oxalate crystals, which can irritate the mouth, throat, skin and eyes.
