Peperomia clusiifolia 'Jellie' is a variegated red-edge peperomia with thick, glossy leaves in green, cream and pink. The leaves are broader and firmer than those of ripple peperomias, with a paddle-like shape and a smooth surface. Pink to red edging develops along the margins and petioles, giving the plant a soft colour contrast with steady, mounding growth.
This Peperomia grows on short, upright to mounding stems. It stays compact indoors, but the fleshy leaves give each stem enough weight and fullness to make the plant look substantial in a small pot. Because the leaves store moisture, the roots need drying time and air movement through the substrate.
Peperomia clusiifolia is native to Jamaica and grows as an epiphyte in wet tropical conditions. That explains the care balance this plant needs indoors. It likes warmth and filtered light, but its roots should not be buried in a dense, wet mix. In nature, epiphytic roots have access to air, and container care should preserve that airflow.
'Jellie' adds variegated margins to the firm, glossy leaf shape associated with Peperomia clusiifolia. The paler edges can mark more easily than green tissue, so the plant benefits from bright indirect light rather than direct sun. Pruning longer stems helps keep the plant full, and healthy tips can be rooted as cuttings.
Peperomia clusiifolia is generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs. It is still not intended for chewing, and repeated biting can cause minor stomach upset.
Peperomia means pepper-like and refers to the genus’ place in the pepper family, Piperaceae. The species epithet clusiifolia means Clusia-leaved, reflecting the thick, glossy leaves that resemble those of Clusia.
Peperomia clusiifolia 'Jellie' carries glossy green, cream and pink leaves on short fleshy stems.
