Alocasia longiloba 'Silver' has pointed, vein-marked leaves with a cool silver-green surface. Pale surface colour, darker contrast, and narrow blades give the plant a crisp longiloba profile.
This selection grows from a rhizomatous base and holds its leaves on upright petioles. Silvered areas and pale veins need filtered light, while the roots need a breathable mix that stays lightly moist and airy.
Alocasia longiloba is a naturally variable species with narrow to shield-shaped leaves, pale venation, and darker or purple-toned undersides in some forms. 'Silver' carries that longiloba shape with a silver-green surface and pointed blade outline.
The cool-toned blade surface can mark under harsh light, especially on pale areas. A warm position with bright filtered light, steady moisture, and humidity during leaf expansion helps new foliage open with fewer dry edges or creases.
Alocasia longiloba 'Silver' is not pet-safe. The plant contains insoluble calcium oxalates, which can irritate the mouth and digestive tract if chewed or swallowed.
Alocasia longiloba is an accepted species in the Araceae family, first published by Miquel in 1856 in Flora van Nederlandsch Indie. The genus name Alocasia was formed in relation to Colocasia, a closely allied aroid genus, while the epithet “longiloba” means long-lobed and fits the extended lobes on mature longiloba leaves. The species ranges from southern China to western and central Malesia, where it grows in wet tropical habitats.
