Polyscias guilfoylei 'Roble' has pinnate leaves divided into glossy, leathery, rounded leaflets. Irregular lobes and toothed edges give each leaf a defined, uneven outline on an upright woody frame.
The species grows as a shrub or treelet and can reach several metres in tropical conditions. In a pot, it stays far smaller and develops as an upright leafy shrub with a steady need for warmth, drainage and balanced moisture.
Polyscias guilfoylei can form a shrub or treelet up to about 5 m in tropical conditions. The leaves are usually 1-pinnate, and some forms can become irregularly decompound, creating a layered, divided structure.
Indoors, Polyscias guilfoylei 'Roble' behaves as a warm woody foliage plant. A stable root zone matters because sudden changes in moisture, temperature or light can lead to leaf drop.
Polyscias guilfoylei 'Roble' should be kept out of reach of cats, dogs and horses. Ingestion can cause irritation and digestive upset, and contact with plant sap may irritate sensitive skin.
Polyscias guilfoylei was published under its current combination by Liberty Hyde Bailey in 1916. This cultivated tropical species ranges from East Malesia to the south-west Pacific.
