Alocasia 'Golden Bone' is a green Alocasia with a pale yellow to lime-gold midrib and lighter primary veins. The pale colour follows the midrib and main veins, standing out against the darker blade surface.
The leaves are broad and dark green, with burgundy to reddish tones often visible on the underside of mature blades. In a pot, the plant gains height through sturdy petioles and a rhizomatous base.
Alocasia 'Golden Bone' entered cultivation in Indonesia in the mid-2000s. Its exact parentage is undocumented. In cultivation, it is identified by broad green leaves, a gold-toned midrib and red-backed mature foliage.
It needs bright shade, steady temperatures and an airy mix; cold wet substrate can soften the crown and rot the roots.
In bright shade, new leaves show the pale midrib clearly as the blade expands. Do not let cold, wet mix sit around the crown.
Mature Alocasia 'Golden Bone' may produce a typical aroid inflorescence with a spathe and spadix. Indoors, it usually shows broad leaves, a pale midrib and reddish undersides rather than flowers.
Alocasia 'Golden Bone' can irritate the mouth if plant tissue is eaten. Keep it out of reach of pets and children, and handle cut stems or damaged leaves carefully.
Alocasia is a New Latin genus name connected with Colocasia. 'Golden Bone' refers to the pale yellow midrib and vein structure running through the darker leaves.
Mature leaves show broad green blades, a yellow-gold midrib and red-toned undersides.
