Anthurium ‘Super Silver Blush’

An intensely silver cultivated selection

‘Super Silver Blush’ is a horticultural line selected for especially extensive silver tissue across the leaf. The name circulates commercially among strongly silver plants, while a single breeder, parent record and introduction history have not been established publicly. Its dependable origin is cultivation and selection; any more precise species assignment or wild locality would require a documented pedigree attached to the individual clone.

Care for Anthurium ‘Super Silver Blush’

• Light: Provide bright, diffuse light and screen strong midday sun. Rotate the pot gradually so the broad leaves receive even light without abrupt exposure changes.
• Watering: Water when the surface starts to dry while moisture remains lower in the pot. Saturate the mix evenly and empty any water held in the outer pot.
• Humidity and airflow: Keep relative humidity around 65–80% and provide mild air circulation around emerging leaves. Let wet foliage dry quickly.
• Temperature: An intermediate range of 18–27 °C suits this plant, with nights preferably above 18 °C. Avoid prolonged heat above 29 °C.
• Substrate and repotting: Let Anthurium ‘Super Silver Blush’ settle in the original container first, using pot weight, root activity and clean new growth through the fine-rooted velvet-leaf root ball to decide when a later repot will cause the least disruption. Afterwards, use a slightly larger pot with fine bark, coco coir, chopped coco husk and pumice or perlite.
• Feeding: Apply a dilute complete fertiliser whenever roots and leaves are growing. When Anthurium ‘Super Silver Blush’ slows under lower light, reduce fertiliser concentration while roots remain active; return to the normal rate with fresh growth and flush the pot with plain water every 4–6 weeks.
• Broad silver pattern and propagation: Give the heavily silvered leaves room to harden without touching wet surfaces. Brush them gently when dry and propagate from rooted offsets or viable stem sections.

Wilting, brown edges and scorch

• A thirsty wilt or wet-root wilt: Flexible leaves paired with low pot weight show that moisture has run short; water through the full mix and drain it completely. Persistent pot weight with a damp centre points to lost air around the roots; hold the next watering and inspect deeper roots. An isolated old leaf may fade as the plant redirects resources.
• Testing roots by texture: A firm cream or tan root remains useful; root colour varies, so firmness is the useful test. Remove failed root sections once their slippery or hollow texture is clear; match the remaining roots with a snug ventilated pot and fine airy mix. Before cutting Anthurium ‘Super Silver Blush’, photograph the root system and confirm failure by texture; preserve every firm section, sterilise the tool between cuts and keep the crown stable while new roots develop.
• A newly browned tip: Low humidity can sharpen damage caused by an uneven watering cycle; use the pot and recent care history to separate these causes. A stable 18–27 °C position with bright diffuse light supports the next leaf; avoid heat above 29 °C and check for cold or depleted roots.
• Thrips scars and mite stippling: Black specks beside silver scars point to thrips on folded new leaves and dry sheaths; mites leave a much finer dull stippling on mature foliage. Search both sides of the leaf and inside the dry sheath; tiny larvae and black specks can hide there. Set the plant apart and apply a labelled product to dry sheaths and both leaf surfaces; follow the repeat timing printed on the label and inspect new growth each week over the following four weeks.
• Scorch and rubbing: The broad silvered areas show heat and rubbing quickly. Keep soft leaves away from hot glass and contact, and use a fixed dry edge to recognise old damage.

The name Anthurium ‘Super Silver Blush’

The genus name Anthurium combines Greek anthos, “flower”, and oura, “tail”, referring to the tail-like spadix. Heinrich Wilhelm Schott established the genus in 1829 in Wiener Zeitschrift für Kunst, Litteratur, Theater und Mode, volume 3, page 828.

‘Super Silver Blush’ intensifies the established ‘Silver Blush’ wording for plants whose pale coverage extends across most of the blade, often leaving only a narrow green margin.
