Heart-shaped foliage across plant types

Heart-shaped foliage appears across Philodendron, Hoya, Anthurium, Peperomia, Dischidia and many other genera. Leaf size, surface texture and growth habit create the main differences. Fine trailing stems produce a delicate cascade, while climbing aroids can develop larger leaves as they rise on a support. Compact rosettes create a dense shape close to the pot.

The base of the leaf may be rounded, deeply indented or elongated, giving each plant a distinct outline. Nodes, aerial roots and maturing leaves define the familiar growth of Heartleaf Philodendron. Many heart-shaped vines can be renewed from viable nodes using the propagation guide.
