Hibiscus tiliaceus variegata is grown first and foremost for its foliage: broad, heart-shaped leaves marbled in cream, green, and often pink on new growth, creating a luminous canopy even when the plant is not in flower. Yellow blooms with red centres can appear on mature plants, but the shifting leaf colour is what gives this form its real presence.
It grows as a fast, shrubby small tree and is best suited to large tubs, bright conservatory conditions, or warm outdoor placements where it can receive strong light without cold stress. Keep the substrate evenly moist but well drained, feed regularly during active growth, and protect it from frost. In cooler regions it is best treated as a container plant that needs warmth and room to show off its broad, tropical crown.
