Ficus umbellata grows with tall graceful stems and broad heart-shaped leaves that create a softer, more relaxed look than the heavier, more rigid profile of Ficus lyrata. Indoors it is valued for large textured green foliage and an upright but not overly dense habit, making it useful where you want a statement fig that feels lighter and more open.
Bright indirect light is ideal, and the soil should stay moderately moist with the top few centimetres allowed to dry before watering again. A well-draining indoor mix, moderate to higher humidity, and stable warmth help it perform best, while repeated moving or drafts can stress it.
Yellow leaves usually point to overwatering or drainage issues, and pests such as spider mites or scale can appear on stressed plants. Like other ficus, the sap can irritate and the plant is mildly toxic if ingested.
