This horticultural hybrid brings together Anthurium magnificum and Anthurium crystallinum. Both parents occur in humid Colombian forest: A. magnificum is associated with foothill and intermediate elevations, while A. crystallinum is chiefly epiphytic around 500–1,000 m. The cross was created in cultivation, and its individual breeder and introduction remain unrecorded; parent habitats provide context for the lineage while seedlings can combine their traits in different proportions.

Care for Anthurium magnificum × crystallinum

• Light: Provide bright, diffuse light and screen strong midday sun. Rotate the pot gradually so the broad leaves receive even light without abrupt exposure changes.
• Watering: Water when the surface starts to dry while moisture remains lower in the pot. Saturate the mix evenly and empty any water held in the outer pot.
• Humidity and airflow: Keep relative humidity around 65–80% and provide mild air circulation around emerging leaves. Let wet foliage dry quickly.
• Temperature: An intermediate range of 18–27 °C suits this plant, with nights preferably above 18 °C. Avoid prolonged heat above 29 °C.
• Substrate and repotting: Keep the nursery planting of Anthurium magnificum × crystallinum stable while light, temperature and watering settle, and follow the well-aerated root zone and emerging foliage for signs of activity; repot when the plant is growing and its drying rate is familiar. Afterwards, use a slightly larger pot with fine bark, coco coir, chopped coco husk and pumice or perlite.
• Feeding: Apply a dilute complete fertiliser whenever roots and leaves are growing. • Root failure around the crown: Roots with a solid core can stay; fresh tips provide an extra sign of activity. Cut away clearly soft or empty roots while preserving firm tissue; use a ventilated pot sized to the surviving roots and a fine open substrate. Use a hand lens along veins, undersides and protected leaf bases; these areas need full treatment coverage. Quarantine the plant, then treat the sheath, underside and upper leaf with a correctly labelled product. Schedule the next treatment exactly as directed on the label and inspect new growth at seven-day intervals for a full month.
• Creased or torn new leaves: A broad new blade can crease or tear if humidity changes or its opening path is blocked. Clear surrounding objects, stabilise conditions and leave the soft surface untouched.

The botanical names behind this plant

The genus name Anthurium combines Greek anthos, “flower”, and oura, “tail”, referring to the tail-like spadix. Heinrich Wilhelm Schott established the genus in 1829 in Wiener Zeitschrift für Kunst, Litteratur, Theater und Mode, volume 3, page 828.

Crystallinum is Latin for “crystalline”, referring to the glinting pale venation. Jean Jules Linden and Édouard André described Anthurium crystallinum in 1873 in Catalogue Général 90, plate 128.

Magnificum is Latin for “magnificent” or “splendid”. Jean Jules Linden described Anthurium magnificum in 1865 in Catalogue des Plantes Exotiques 19: 2.
