Caladium ‘Miss Muffet’ is a compact Caladium with smaller heart-shaped leaves in light green to chartreuse. The blades are scattered with red, pink or burgundy speckles. The speckles stay visible even on the smaller leaves.
It forms a dense crown of upright petioles from a small tuber. Compared with larger fancy-leaf Caladiums, ‘Miss Muffet’ stays more contained in the pot, with shorter petioles and a close, compact shape.
A small tuber produces a tight crown of leaves once the pot is warm and lightly moist. New roots and leaves develop from the crown, then the foliage may fade and collapse when the plant stops making new leaves. A firm tuber can rest and restart later.
Caladium ‘Miss Muffet’ may produce a spathe and spadix. Remove spent flowers if they appear.
All parts contain insoluble calcium oxalate crystals. If ingested, they can irritate the mouth and throat. Keep the plant out of reach of pets and children.
‘Miss Muffet’ comes from Frank M. Joyner’s Caladium breeding work in Tampa, Florida.
