Colocasia esculenta ‘Pharaoh’s Mask’ has bright green leaves crossed by thick raised purple-black veins. The vein network projects above the surface in heavy ridges, creating a three-dimensional texture from the central midrib to the outer edge. Dark petioles repeat the same colour beneath the blades.
The leaf margins curl under more strongly as they develop, drawing the green tissue backwards and making the raised veins appear even more prominent. New leaves begin flatter and simpler; the mask-like form emerges as the blade expands and its edges roll. Basal shoots build a tight clump that can reach about 1.5 m. On an older plant, broad raised veins, deep folds and strongly curled margins cast heavy shadows across each sculpted blade.
