Ceropegia woodii in Kokodama combines String of Hearts with a hanging coconut-fibre planter. The plant keeps its fine purple-toned stems, small heart-shaped leaves and silver marbling, while the rounded fibre ball lets the vines fall freely from a compact hanging base.
The plant is the same tuberous Ceropegia woodii, but the fibre ball dries differently from a standard pot. The outside can feel dry while the centre still holds moisture. Lift the Kokodama before watering, check its weight and look at the leaves and tubers before soaking again.
In a Kokodama, the vines fall straight from the rounded fibre ball, with spaced heart-shaped leaves forming fine chains of growth.
The outside of the Kokodama can dry before the centre does. Water again when the ball feels light and the centre is no longer damp.
Hang the Kokodama where you can remove, soak and drain it without trouble. The vines are fine and easy to damage, so handle the hanger slowly during watering. The root zone still needs a clear wet-to-dry cycle. If the fibre ball starts breaking down or stays wet inside for too long, the plant can be moved carefully into a small draining pot with a succulent-style mix.
Use a strong hook and a secure hanging point. Keep the vines away from pets and children that may pull them, and make sure the fibre ball cannot fall.
This is Ceropegia woodii, grown in a hanging Kokodama.
