The name may cover more than one cultivated silver form, because a single breeder and original selection record have not been established publicly. Its dependable ecological background comes from Anthurium crystallinum, which grows in humid wet forest from Panama to Colombia, commonly on trees and sometimes on the ground at lower to middle elevations.

The genus name Anthurium combines Greek anthos, “flower”, and oura, “tail”, referring to the tail-like spadix. The epithet crystallinum is Latin for crystalline, referring to the bright, crystal-like leaf veins.
