Anthurium crystallinum ‘Silver’ is a horticultural selection distinguished by unusually extensive pale venation and silver tissue. The name may cover more than one cultivated silver form, because a single breeder and original selection record have not been established publicly. Its dependable ecological background comes from Anthurium crystallinum, which grows in humid wet forest from Panama to Colombia, commonly on trees and sometimes on the ground at lower to middle elevations.

Care for Anthurium crystallinum ‘Silver’

• Light: Provide bright, diffuse light and screen strong midday sun. Rotate the pot gradually so the broad leaves receive even light without abrupt exposure changes.
• Watering: Water when the surface starts to dry while moisture remains lower in the pot. Saturate the mix evenly and empty any water held in the outer pot.
• Humidity and airflow: Keep relative humidity around 65–80% and provide mild air circulation around emerging leaves. Let wet foliage dry quickly.
• Temperature: An intermediate range of 18–27 °C suits this plant, with nights preferably above 18 °C. Avoid prolonged heat above 29 °C.
• Substrate and repotting: Keep Anthurium crystallinum ‘Silver’ steady in its nursery container during the first acclimation cycle, checking the fine-rooted velvet-leaf root ball at each watering; move to a new mix once root activity and moisture use are consistent. • Scorch on silvered areas: A pale dry patch after a light increase signals scorch on the silvered surface. Move it back from hot direct light and acclimate any future increase gradually.

The genus name Anthurium combines Greek anthos, “flower”, and oura, “tail”, referring to the tail-like spadix. Heinrich Wilhelm Schott established the genus in 1829 in Wiener Zeitschrift für Kunst, Litteratur, Theater und Mode, volume 3, page 828.

Crystallinum is Latin for “crystalline”, referring to the glinting pale venation. Jean Jules Linden and Édouard André described Anthurium crystallinum in 1873 in Catalogue Général 90, plate 128.

‘Silver’ is a descriptive selection name for the broader silver-white venation and metallic spread around the veins. It distinguishes the cultivated foliage form from typical green-and-silver Anthurium crystallinum.
