Rhipsalis agudoensis is an intriguing epiphytic cactus from the humid rainforests of Brazil. Unlike desert cacti, this species thrives in dappled shade, absorbing moisture from the surrounding air. With its long, trailing stems and subtle ridged texture, it makes a stunning choice for hanging planters or shelves. Over time, the slender, segmented stems can reach lengths of up to a meter, developing a reddish hue when exposed to increased light. Given the right conditions, it produces delicate cream-colored flowers, followed by small, pinkish berries.
Understanding the natural habitat of Rhipsalis agudoensis helps provide optimal care. As an epiphyte in Brazilian rainforests, it thrives in humid, shaded conditions. Mimicking this environment indoors – with good airflow, indirect light, and a well-draining substrate – ensures a healthy, thriving plant.
The genus Rhipsalis comes from the Greek word for "wickerwork," referring to the plant’s interwoven growth. The species name agudoensis originates from its discovery near Agudo, a region in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. It was first described by Nigel Paul Taylor in 2003.
Looking for an easy-care, trailing cactus? Rhipsalis agudoensis brings a lush, tropical vibe to any space. Order yours today and enjoy its unique cascading growth!
