Polyscias fruticosa 'Ming', also known as Ming Aralia, is a woody tropical plant with finely divided compound leaves on branching stems. Narrow, irregular leaflets cluster around the stems, giving the plant a compact, finely cut tree-like form in a pot.
Warmth, bright indirect light, moderate to higher humidity and balanced watering keep the fine foliage cleaner through indoor growth. The roots need moisture and air together, with neither long saturation nor hard drought.
Small divided leaflets sit along branching stems, and light pruning can keep the woody frame dense after the plant has settled. The fine compound foliage gives Ming Aralia its detailed texture without changing its shrub-like growth habit.
Polyscias fruticosa is a cultivated tropical shrub from Central Malesia to the south-west Pacific. Its warm-climate background matches the plant’s preference for stable moisture and protection from cold draughts.
Keep Polyscias fruticosa 'Ming' away from pets and children that may chew the leaves or stems. Ingestion can irritate the mouth and stomach, and sap contact may bother sensitive skin.
Polyscias fruticosa was placed in its current combination by Hermann Harms in 1894. The genus name comes from Greek roots meaning “many” and “shade” or “umbrella,” and the species epithet fruticosa refers to a shrubby growth habit.
