Goeppertia zebrina is a broad-leaved prayer plant with velvety dark green foliage marked by bold chartreuse stripes and backed by reddish-purple undersides that show more clearly as the leaves move. Indoors it can reach around 90 cm tall and wide, forming a substantial clump from basal rhizomes rather than a narrow upright tuft.
It prefers bright filtered light, warmth, and consistently moist but well-aerated substrate, with humidity around 60–80% helping keep the broad leaves clean and undamaged. Water once only the top 10–15% has dried, avoid direct sun and standing water, and use softer or filtered water if tips begin to brown.
Repotting and propagation are usually done by rhizome division, and because it is considered non-toxic, it suits mixed households better than many large tropical foliage plants.
