Perlite – Lightweight drainage and aeration booster for potting soil
Perlite is a super-light, expanded volcanic glass that opens up dense soil, improves drainage and increases aeration around roots. It is one of the easiest ways to turn heavy compost into a breathable mix for houseplants, aroids, succulents and propagation.
Why perlite belongs in modern potting mixes
- Helps excess water escape: reduces the risk of waterlogged pots and root rot.
- Boosts oxygen at the root zone: keeps structure loose so roots can grow into air gaps, not just solid compost.
- Retains some moisture: holds a thin film of water on each grain while letting the bulk of the mix dry at a sensible pace.
