Adelonema wallisii is native from Costa Rica to Colombia and grows in wet tropical forest conditions. In Colombia, it grows in the Pacific biogeographic region at around 300–500 m elevation, in tropical wet to premontane wet forest. Indoors, it prefers warmth, filtered light and an evenly moist but aerated root zone.

The species belongs to Adelonema, a Neotropical aroid genus separate from Asian Homalomena. The older name Homalomena wallisii still appears in horticulture. 'Camouflage' is the mottled horticultural form with broken green leaf patterning and a compact crown.

The crown sits close to the substrate and expands gradually as new shoots form from the base. Each leaf has a firm, slightly leathery feel, a smooth margin and an oval to oblong blade. In indoor growing, the plant usually stays low and broad, so pot width, substrate texture and even moisture matter more than vertical support.
