Ficus microcarpa 'Moclame' is an evergreen indoor fig with smooth grey-brown stems and a dense canopy of glossy green leaves. Its relatively small, neat leaves give the plant a rounded crown while still keeping the character of a woody tropical tree.
This cultivar is grown as a foliage houseplant for bright interiors, where it forms an upright, bushy plant with leathery lance-shaped leaves. Mature container plants can become sizeable over time, but pruning and pot size keep the crown balanced for indoor use.
Ficus microcarpa 'Moclame' develops as a woody-stemmed indoor tree with a dense, leafy crown. The leaves sit closely along the shoots, so the plant can build a full canopy when it receives enough light from more than one side. Rotating the pot occasionally helps the crown stay even.
The species behind 'Moclame' grows in warm, wet tropical regions and can form a much larger tree outdoors. Indoors, it prefers warmth, steady moisture and a substrate that drains cleanly. Sudden changes in position, temperature or watering can trigger leaf drop.
Ficus microcarpa 'Moclame' produces milky latex sap when cut or damaged. The sap can irritate skin, and chewed leaves or stems may upset pets or children, so place the plant out of reach and clean pruning tools after use.
Ficus is Latin for fig or fig tree, while microcarpa means small-fruited.
A rounded crown of glossy leaves develops above smooth woody stems.
