Dionaea muscipula, the Venus flytrap, is a carnivorous bog plant grown for its hinged traps with sensitive trigger hairs. It forms a low rosette of green traps that may colour red inside under strong light. Place it in very bright light to full sun, using mineral-free water such as rainwater, distilled or reverse-osmosis water, and a nutrient-poor acidic medium such as long-fibre sphagnum or peat with washed sand. Keep the medium consistently wet with good light and airflow. Insects provide nutrients, so occasional small insect feeding can support indoor plants with little insect access, while active outdoor plants can catch prey naturally.
