Davallia tyermanii is the white rabbit’s foot fern, a rhizomatous epiphyte or lithophyte with finely divided green fronds and pale, furry rhizomes that creep over the pot surface. The visible rhizomes are part of the plant’s growth habit and should stay above the substrate surface. Native from southern China to northern Myanmar and Taiwan, it prefers bright indirect light, moderate to high humidity, and an airy fern mix that stays lightly moist with good drainage. Let the surface approach slight dryness between waterings, keep the rhizomes exposed and airy, and note that Davallia ferns are listed as non-toxic to cats and dogs.
