Olive to lime-toned velvet leaves give Anoectochilus roxburghii ‘Dreamcatcher’ a brighter green-and-gold look. Golden reticulate veins spread across the leaf surface, while the plant keeps the low terrestrial habit of Anoectochilus roxburghii.
It grows close to the substrate from creeping stems and stays compact in a shallow pot. Warm humidity, gentle light and an airy fine mix keep the leaves expanding cleanly and reduce root stress around the fine terrestrial roots.
Anoectochilus roxburghii is an accepted jewel orchid species from the Himalaya to southern China and Indo-China. ‘Dreamcatcher’ keeps that creeping terrestrial growth, with new leaves forming along a low rhizome near the surface.
A shallow container gives the surface rhizome room to move, while a fine, airy substrate keeps the root zone moist without staying heavy around the base.
This jewel orchid is considered non-toxic to cats and dogs. Place the shallow pot where it cannot be tipped, pawed at or grazed by curious pets.
Anoectochilus roxburghii (Wall.) Lindl. is an accepted Orchidaceae species first published in J.F. Royle’s Illustrations of the Botany of the Himalayan Mountains, page 368, in 1839. The species epithet honours William Roxburgh, an influential botanist associated with Indian botany. The genus name refers to the open-lipped flower structure.
‘Dreamcatcher’ is grown for olive to lime-toned leaves with golden reticulate veining and the same low rhizomatous growth seen across the species group.
