Alocasia 'Thunder Waves' is a large hybrid Alocasia often sold under the spelling 'Portodora'. It develops long petioles, green leaves and wavy cut edges on mature growth.
This tall, fast-growing Alocasia needs a bright indoor spot with space around the pot. Once the plant has filled its pot with roots, new leaves can grow larger and show more pronounced wavy edges.
Bright indirect light keeps the plant upright and supports larger leaves. A coarse mix helps water move through the pot while holding enough moisture for active growth.
Cut stems can release irritating sap, and the leaves can irritate the mouth and stomach if ingested. Keep Alocasia 'Thunder Waves' away from pets and children.
'Thunder Waves' describes the wavy mature leaf outline. The plant is often sold as 'Portodora' and is better known botanically as Alocasia × portora, from Alocasia odora × Alocasia portei.
