Leptochilus pteropus subsp. pteropus, better known in aquatics as Java fern, grows from a creeping rhizome that should be attached to wood or stone rather than buried in substrate. Its dark green, lance-shaped fronds arch cleanly through the water and make it a reliable choice for aquariums, paludariums, and other humid aquatic displays where slower, steadier growth is an advantage.
