Gynura aurantiaca is a tropical Asteraceae houseplant with green leaves and stems covered in vivid purple hairs, giving the plant its velvet-like surface. The stems often begin upright, then lengthen and soften, allowing the plant to be pinched or pruned into a fuller shape. Its colour effect comes from the fine hairs catching light across the leaf surface, especially on younger growth. Bright indirect light, warmth, even moisture, and airflow reduce stale damp conditions around the hairy leaves and stems. Purple passion plant is listed as non-toxic to cats and dogs.
