Chamaedorea elegans, the parlour palm, is a small understory palm with slender green stems and soft, feathered fronds. Native from Mexico to Honduras, it is adapted to filtered forest light and stays manageable as a compact indoor palm. A bright filtered position or light shade suits it best, with a free-draining mix that still holds light moisture. Water when the top of the substrate has dried slightly, and keep conditions warm and even. Its upright habit gives a soft palm look in a modest footprint, while the fine fronds add gentle texture and an airy outline to bright indoor placements as the crown fills out.
