Brighamia insignis, often sold as Hawaiian Palm, is not a palm at all but a stem succulent with a swollen water-storing trunk topped by a rosette of glossy leaves, creating one of the most recognisable silhouettes in cultivation. That shape alone makes Brighamia insignis memorable, but the species also carries unusual conservation weight because it is extinct in the wild and survives through cultivation.
In bright indirect light and a sharply draining mix, it remains manageable indoors while still developing the thick stem that gives it its prehistoric character. Mature plants can also produce sweetly scented yellow flowers, adding another reason this species stands apart from ordinary succulent rosette plants.
