Live cushion moss – raised living moss for humid glass builds
Live cushion moss gives terrariums a textured, mounded surface. It is a living material, so it needs stable humidity, gentle moisture and suitable light rather than heavy watering.
How it behaves
- Cushion form: creates raised moss mounds
- Closed terrariums: best in humid, sheltered glass
- Surface use: place on top of prepared substrate
- No submersion: keep damp, not underwater
Materials and build
Use clean tools, avoid burying the cushions and keep the surface evenly moist. In closed glass, only small amounts of water are needed because moisture recirculates.
Good to know
Cushion moss will not behave like a dried decorative topping. It can brown if kept too dry and can rot if left submerged or sealed into a waterlogged container.
How to use Live cushion moss
- Terrarium surface: Use as living ground cover in humid glass builds.
- Finishing: Works for kokedama, moss balls, and small landscape edges.
- Moisture: Mist and water lightly so it stays evenly damp without smothering.
Prep and handling for Live cushion moss
- Humidity: Use in humid builds; keep evenly damp so it stays alive and green.
