Syngonium podophyllum ‘Trileaf Wonder'

Identity and natural origin of Syngonium podophyllum ‘Trileaf Wonder'

Syngonium podophyllum ‘Trileaf Wonder' is a cultivated selection. Its breeder and introduction date are unknown.

Syngonium podophyllum occurs naturally from Mexico to tropical America.

How to care for Syngonium podophyllum 'Trileaf Wonder' at home

Support: Attach extending stems loosely to a pole or trellis, leaving the long leaf stalks free.

Light and temperature: Provide medium to bright indirect light, keeping harsh direct sun off the leaves. Temperatures around 18–27 °C suit it; avoid cold below 15 °C.

Grow Syngonium podophyllum ‘Trileaf Wonder' in well-drained houseplant compost in a pot with drainage holes. Water when the upper root ball has dried slightly and the pot feels lighter, while a little moisture remains below the surface. Wet the mix evenly, let it drain and empty the saucer or outer pot.

Humidity: A steady range of about 50–60% relative humidity and avoid stagnant air around the plant.

Apply diluted balanced fertiliser about monthly during active growth. Stop feeding when growth pauses, and water less often as the mix takes longer to dry.

Repotting: If roots tightly fill the pot, repot the plant in a slightly larger pot with fresh compost. Water a healthy plant after repotting and allow drainage. Repot when roots densely fill the container, moving up only slightly and keeping the climbing support stable.

Choose healthy stem growth and cut a section that keeps at least one node. A cutting that already carries an aerial root may settle into its new pot more quickly.

Problems and solutions for Syngonium podophyllum 'Trileaf Wonder'

• Wilt in wet mix: Empty standing water and pause watering. If wilting continues, inspect the roots. Keep firm roots intact as the mix dries slightly. Cut soft decay back to healthy tissue with disinfected scissors, disinfecting between cuts and afterwards. Discard rot and affected mix; repot the remaining plant in fresh mix and a clean pot with drainage holes. You may need to discard the plant if extensive rot affects both roots and stems.
• Fresh pale flecks or fine webbing: Check for moving mites under leaves with magnification and by tapping foliage over white paper. Confirm mites before starting treatment. Isolate infested plants and inspect nearby foliage. Rinse or wipe affected leaves weekly while mites remain. Bag heavily infested leaves and wash hands and tools.
• Brown or bleached areas: Strong direct sunlight can scorch foliage. Check whether direct sun reaches the affected leaves and move the plant into indirect light. Retain leaves with substantial healthy tissue and remove fully dead leaves. If fresh damage keeps appearing, check the moisture in the mix and the condition of the roots.

Syngonium podophyllum ‘Trileaf Wonder’ is toxic to people and pets

• Keep this plant away from children, cats and dogs.
• Its leaves and stems contain insoluble calcium oxalate crystals, which can irritate the mouth, throat, skin and eyes.
• Chewing may cause burning pain, drooling, swelling, vomiting or difficulty swallowing. Contact a veterinarian or medical professional after exposure, especially if swelling or breathing problems occur.
