Syngonium Potting Mix

Syngonium Potting Mix uses organic and mineral components to give arrowhead vines steady moisture, root-zone air and longer-lasting structure.

• 2 parts Coco coir – holds moisture without making the mix as heavy as dense compost.
• 1 part Worm castings – provide mild organic nutrients.
• 1.5 parts Pumice – brings mineral structure and improves dry-down.
• 1 part Perlite – creates small air spaces around roots.
• 1 part Coconut husk chips – reduce compaction and add chunky texture.
• A small amount of Activated carbon – brings a porous carbon fraction; it does not replace good structure, watering control or cleanup.
• A small amount of lava gravel – brings mineral texture and helps keep the mix open.

To mix your own: work with a 10-part ratio as a base and adjust components to match your conditions. Add more pumice or perlite if pots stay wet too long, or a little extra coir if your environment is very dry and the mix dries too quickly.

Use this mix when Syngonium need better aeration than generic potting soil can offer, but still react badly to long dry periods.

• Light: Syngonium prefer bright, indirect light; strong, direct sun can scorch leaves.
• Watering: keep the mix evenly, lightly moist – let the top layer dry slightly but avoid letting the pot dry out completely.
• Humidity: higher humidity is helpful; grouping plants or using a humidifier can reduce leaf crisping in very dry air.
• Temperature: warmth and stable conditions suit Syngonium best; avoid cold drafts and sudden temperature swings.
• When to repot: repot when roots become crowded, growth slows without another clear cause, or when the old mix has broken down and no longer drains well.
• Repotting steps: remove loose old soil carefully, trim dead or rotten roots if needed, add enough Syngonium Potting Mix to set the plant at the right height, then backfill while keeping the root crown just below the surface.
• Settling the mix: lightly press the substrate to stabilise the plant, then water thoroughly so the mix settles around the roots and air pockets close.

Monitor how quickly the mix dries in your specific light and temperature; adjust watering frequency rather than volume so the substrate can re-oxygenate between waterings.

• pH: around 7.3.
• NPK (mg/L): roughly 58 – 6.8 – 145.
• Bioactive: Yes – compatible with many bioactive setups.
• Pet considerations: contains perlite, fertiliser and activated carbon and is not intended for ingestion by pets or children.
• Organic matter: about 60 %.
• Dry matter: about 40 %.
• Water retention: roughly 55 %, tuned for lightly moist but not saturated conditions.
• Structural stability: typically 3–4 years indoors before coco coir, husk and bark degrade enough that drainage slows.
