Schismatoglottis longispatha variegata is a striking variegated form of Schismatoglottis longispatha W.Bull (1875). Its foliage shows bright mint and mottled cream patterns blended with irregular green splashes, ensuring the plant can photosynthesize efficiently while displaying dramatic colouration. Each leaf develops its own unique pattern, reminiscent of a watercolor painting, making this a collector’s treasure.
Schismatoglottis longispatha is native to Borneo, where it grows on shaded, humid forest floors near streams and damp soils. Its variegated form is a cultivated rarity. The natural environment explains its preference for evenly moist substrates, filtered light, and high humidity in cultivation.
The genus name Schismatoglottis comes from Greek schisma (“separating”) and glotta (“tongue”), referring to the deciduous upper part of the spathe found in many species. The species epithet longispatha highlights the characteristically long spathe. The cultivar term “variegata” describes the distinct cream and mint variegation in its foliage.
This rare variegated form combines botanical rarity with living artistry. Order Schismatoglottis longispatha variegata today and bring its watercolor-like foliage into your plant collection.
