Caladium 'Va Va Violet' stays low and rounded, with narrow lance-shaped leaves that rise and angle outward from the tuber. The blades are lavender-pink to violet-pink, with red-purple veins and dark green margins around the narrow leaves.
Its short, rounded habit fits pots, baskets and sheltered warm-season containers. Give it bright indirect light or partial shade, steady warmth and even moisture while it is growing.
The leaves rise from the tuber on individual petioles, the stalks that hold the leaves, and spread outward as the pot fills out into a compact mound. Its narrower lance-type leaves give it a more contained outline than broad fancy-leaf Caladiums.
Size can vary from plant to plant. Tuber size, warmth, light and watering all affect how quickly it fills the pot.
Firm tubers with visible growing points can restart when conditions are warm again. If divided, each viable section needs a growing point and should dry before planting. Older plants may produce a small aroid-type flower, though this cultivar is grown for its violet-toned leaves.
Keep Caladium 'Va Va Violet' away from pets and children. Leaves, petioles and tuber tissue can irritate the mouth and stomach if eaten. Sap from cut parts may bother sensitive skin.
Caladiums are tropical American aroids grown from underground tubers. The genus name Caladium is linked to Malay keladi. Caladium 'Va Va Violet' is part of the Heart to Heart® range. Its cultivar name is 'PSY LAV 2322-566B'. Its parent cultivars are 'Carolyn Whorton' and 'Gingerland'.
