Caladium ‘Rosebud’ is a fancy-leaf Caladium with broad heart-shaped leaves. Each leaf has a rose-pink centre, pale inner areas and a wide green border. The pink sits around the centre of the blade, with pale tissue inside the green edge.
The plant grows from a tuber and forms a clump of upright petioles. Larger, firm tubers can produce fuller growth; smaller tubers usually stay more compact.
Each new leaf rises from the crown on its own petiole. With steady warmth and moisture, the crown keeps sending up new leaves. When the plant begins to rest, the leaves can yellow and collapse while the firm tuber remains alive.
A spathe and spadix may appear. Remove it once it fades.
Caladium ‘Rosebud’ contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals. If ingested, plant tissue can irritate the mouth, throat and digestive tract. Keep away from pets and young children.
Foliage Caladiums come from tropical American species, especially Caladium bicolor. The genus name Caladium comes from Malay keladi.
