Caladium 'Hilo Beauty' is a unique cultivar of Caladium praetermissum Bogner and Hett, described in 2009 and only known from cultivation. Its natural distribution remains a mystery. This cultivar features large green leaves adorned with irregular white, cream, and light green spots, creating a striking contrast. It is suspected that all cultivated specimens are derived vegetatively from a single clone, making Caladium praetermissum 'Hilo Beauty' or C. 'Hilo Beauty' the correct naming, as established by Graf in 1982.
Thrives in warm, humid environments with bright, indirect light, making it an excellent choice for indoor cultivation or shaded outdoor spots.
The genus name Caladium comes from the Malay word kěladi, referring to an aroid plant. The species epithet praetermissum means "overlooked" or "forgotten," referring to its previous classification as an Alocasia for a long time.
