Alocasia 'Serendipity' is a dark, bronze-toned Alocasia selection with colour on both sides of the leaf blade. The surface can look slightly puckered, while the underside carries fine, peach-fuzz-like hairs that are visible when the leaf is viewed close up.
It grows as an upright clumping Alocasia from a rhizomatous base. Warm roots, bright filtered light and an airy substrate keep the rhizome active; cold wet mix can damage the roots before the leaves show obvious decline.
New leaves rise on upright petioles and harden into darker bronze-green surfaces. The fine hair on the underside is part of the plant’s visible texture, so young leaves should be handled gently while they are still soft.
The rhizome stays firmer in an airy mix, and steady humidity reduces stuck edges while new leaves expand. Dense substrate, cold roots or repeated dry-outs can interrupt new growth and mark the leaf edges.
Alocasia 'Serendipity' contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals. Keep it away from pets and small children, and avoid contact with the mouth or eyes after handling damaged plant tissue.
Alocasia 'Serendipity' is an undescribed Alocasia selection in cultivation. It was named by LariAnn Garner after the plant was found by chance and later brought into tissue culture. The genus name Alocasia comes from its historical separation from Colocasia, a closely related aroid genus.
