Aglaonema ‘Maria’, also circulated as ‘Emerald Beauty’, carries broken silver-green chevrons across a rich dark-green ground. Each pale mark follows a side vein, while clear bands of green remain between them. The thick elliptic leaves develop a firm, leathery feel and a low sheen that suits the cultivar’s deep colouring.
Silver chevrons become clearer as the initially bright-green foliage broadens and hardens. The silver chevrons become clearer as the blades broaden and harden, but mature leaves always retain a high proportion of dark green. Growth is compact and relatively slow, with short intervals between successive leaves and new shoots appearing gradually from the base. Older specimens develop a dense mass of sturdy foliage whose layered markings become especially visible in angled light.
