Xanthosoma dealbatum Grayum, published in Phytologia 82: 55 (1997), is a rarely offered geophytic aroid, native to moist lowland forests of Costa Rica. With its large, deep green, sub-velvety leaves, it develops into a striking foliage plant that brings bold tropical presence into any collection.
This species occurs in moist, shaded areas of Costa Rica’s tropical lowland forests. Its adaptation to humid, warm environments explains its preference for similar conditions in cultivation.
The genus name Xanthosoma combines Greek xanthos (“yellow”) and soma (“body”), referring to the yellow stigma or inner tissues. The epithet dealbatum means “whitened” or “covered with a white coating,” describing a feature observed in parts of the plant.
This rare Costa Rican aroid is a collector’s highlight, combining bold foliage, tropical growth, and botanical uniqueness. Order Xanthosoma dealbatum today and grow a true rainforest giant at home.
