Young plants begin with simple or partly divided leaves. As the plant matures, each leaf opens into a rounded spray of narrow leaflets, often with about 10–20 leaflets on a full leaf.
Individual leaflets may reach about 50 cm, while the leaf stalks can extend to roughly 140 cm. The stem can lengthen and lean with age, and thick roots can emerge along it.
