Schismatoglottis pusilla is a compact tropical aroid from the Philippines, with low rhizomatous growth and a warm, humid growth pattern. The plant remains close to the substrate and develops from a small basal structure.
This species can be grown in humid plant setups when airflow and drainage are managed carefully. The root zone should stay lightly moist, while the rhizome needs air around the base.
Schismatoglottis pusilla grows from a rhizomatous base, so the crown and root zone need both moisture and air. A small pot with a fine, compacted mix can stay wet too long around the rhizome, while a very dry setup can crisp young leaves before they fully expand.
Its compact habit fits warm shelves, cabinets or vitrines, provided the growing point has airflow and old leaf bases are removed before they decay.
As an Araceae plant, Schismatoglottis pusilla should stay out of reach of pets and small children. Chewed plant tissue can irritate the mouth and throat.
Schismatoglottis pusilla is an accepted Araceae species published in 1880 in Botanische Jahrbücher für Systematik. It is a Philippine species from wet tropical habitats.
