Rhipsalis paradoxa (Salm-Dyck ex Pfeiff.) Salm-Dyck is a striking epiphytic cactus species known for its distinctive, angular, and jointed stems that resemble a chain. Native to tropical rainforests of Brazil, this unique species thrives in humid, shaded environments, making it an excellent choice for hanging baskets or mounted displays. Unlike desert cacti, this rainforest species prefers consistently moist conditions and indirect light.
Rhipsalis paradoxa thrives when grown in conditions mimicking its natural rainforest habitat. Keeping it in a humid environment with filtered light and regular watering will encourage strong, healthy growth.
The genus Rhipsalis comes from the Greek word "rhips," meaning wickerwork, referencing its flexible, segmented stems. The species name paradoxa highlights its unusual growth pattern.
