Dracaena braunii 'Gold', also known under its synonym Dracaena sanderiana, is a compact cultivar of the species native to tropical western Africa. Commonly called “lucky bamboo” because of its segmented stems, it is not a true bamboo but a slow-growing perennial that thrives in containers. The slender upright stems, marked by distinct nodes, support rosettes of lance-shaped leaves highlighted with bright green-gold margins. These glowing edges give the plant its name and make it a standout among other Dracaena braunii cultivars.
Dracaena braunii is native to tropical western Africa. Its bamboo-like form and tolerance for container culture made it popular worldwide as “lucky bamboo.” While often sold rooted in water, cultivars like 'Gold' grow best in soil, where they develop stronger, longer-lived plants. Its golden-edged leaves add refinement to the species’ naturally elegant form.
Dracaena 'Gold' is valued for its balance of compact growth and refined foliage. Its golden margins bring a soft brightness to interiors without overwhelming, making it a versatile addition to desks, shelves, and modern displays. Tough, elegant, and long-lived, it’s a plant that appeals to both beginner growers and collectors of Dracaena cultivars.
The genus name Dracaena comes from the Ancient Greek δράκαινα (drakaina), meaning “female dragon,” referencing the red resin (“dragon’s blood”) produced by some species. The epithet braunii honors German botanist Alexander Braun, after whom the species was named.
With its bamboo-like stems and glowing golden leaf margins, Dracaena braunii 'Gold' is both decorative and easy to care for. Order today and bring a touch of elegance and brightness to your home or office.
