Dischidia ovata (Melon) has plump oval leaves crossed by pale longitudinal veins, resembling striped watermelon skin. The base colour ranges from medium to deep green, and some leaves develop warm red or purple tones around the edge or underside. Their smooth succulent surface gives the repeated vein pattern a clean, graphic quality.
Fresh leaves are smaller, softer green and less strongly striped. As they expand and harden, the oval shape broadens and the pale veins become easier to follow. Mature vines branch into a full hanging plant, with older leaves forming a layered mix of green, silver lines and occasional burgundy. Its pattern is built from orderly veins, clearly different from the speckles or cream margins found on other Dischidias.
