Caladium ‘Red Flash’ is a large fancy-leaf Caladium with broad heart-shaped leaves. The larger leaves carry a deep red centre, green margins and pale speckles.
In warmth, it sends up leaf after leaf from the tuber, then rests once the foliage declines.
Larger leaves need a warm, well-rooted tuber. Warmth, steady watering and an airy mix help the larger leaves develop properly. When the leaves decline, the tuber can rest.
If a flower appears, remove it after fading so the tuber can keep more energy for leaves.
Caladium ‘Red Flash’ contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals. If eaten or nibbled, it may irritate the mouth and throat. Keep it away from pets and children.
‘Red Flash’ is an older Frank M. Joyner cultivar from Tampa, Florida. Its name matches the red centre of the leaf.
