Aspidistra elatior is a rhizomatous perennial from southern Japan, grown for upright, strap-shaped dark green leaves with a firm, leathery texture. The plant develops slowly from underground rhizomes, forming a clean, vertical clump over time.
Grow it in soft indirect to lower indoor light, using a well-draining substrate and moderate watering once the mix has partly dried. Its firm leaves and rhizomatous base handle steady indoor conditions well.
