Amydrium humile is a low, sprawling aroid native from Peninsular Malaysia to Sumatra. Cultivated plants extend long sterile branches across the substrate and root at widely separated nodes.
The firm green to grey-green blades remain entire rather than developing the deep divisions associated with Amydrium medium. Internodes on the spreading sterile branches can exceed 20 cm. At some rooted nodes, condensed side shoots gather several leaves into compact clusters and can later bear an inflorescence. An established plant therefore forms a loose ground-level colony rather than a single upright vine.
