Alocasia ‘Venom’ has long, narrow leaves with a sharp outline. Mature blades are dark green with pale veins, angled lobes and extended tips that give the plant its narrow profile.
New leaves often open greener before darkening as they harden. The plant usually remains relatively compact indoors. In a cold wet pot, the tips and new leaves are often the first parts to suffer, so it does best in a bright warm position with a chunky mix.
Alocasia ‘Venom’ contains irritating tissue and is toxic if eaten. Keep cut leaves and trimmings away from pets and children, and wash your hands after pruning.
Alocasia ‘Venom’ is treated as a mutant of Alocasia ‘Amazonica’, from the Alocasia sanderiana × Alocasia longiloba ‘Watsoniana’ line. It is attributed to Mason Lee of Mason Plants in South Korea, found around 2019 and commercialised around 2022. The name links to the long, sharply tapered leaves and the Marvel character Venom.
